Siyan Ma is a scientist in Biomet Lab at the University of California at Berkeley. Her work now focuses on ecosystem ecology and biometeorology for better understanding interactions between nature and human activities. Before coming to UC Berkeley, She earned a Ph.D. in biology (ecology track) at the University of Toledo, Ohio, by conducting a four-year study on the effects of burning and thinning on microclimate and soil CO2 emission in an old-growth mixed conifer forest at Teakettle Experimental Forest, Sierra Nevada National Forest, California. She earned a bachelor of science in Agricultural Meteorology and a master of science in Applied Meteorology from Beijing (China) Agricultural University. While she worked in the university as a lecturer and researcher, her research focused on the significance of climatic thermal and water resources in achieving high yields in croplands and potential effects of global climate changes on semi-arid croplands in northern China.
