Biography

Anne Sophie Brocard is a dedicated and knowledgeable safety professional with over 20 years experience in the biosafety field. She currently serves as the Biosafety Officer and EHS Leader for ATCC, headquartered in Manassas, Virginia. In her current role, she oversees the operational biosafety and EHS department and serves as a source of expertise on appropriate equipment, facilities, and work practices. Prior to joining ATCC, Sophie worked for 20 years at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), after completing a post-doctoral fellowship in viral pathology. She worked in the UTMB biosafety program for 16 years as an adjunct assistant professor in the department of Pathology, and served five years as Biosafety Program Director, Institutional Biosafety Officer, and Alternate Responsible Official for the Select Agent program. Sophie has experience working in healthcare, research, academic institutions, and in a production/repository/cGMP company. Sophie has severed on many different safety committees including, Biorisk Management committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, Chemical Safety Committee, and IACUC. Sophie has BSL3 research, animal, and field experience, and BSL4 safety experience. She was a course director for several graduate courses and has taught biosafety nationally and internationally. Sophie was the Director of the Laboratory Biosafety Training Program at the UTMB National Biocontainment Training Center until 2016. Dr. Brocard also works for Biosafety Consulting a consulting company in biosafety. Sophie has been an active member of ABSA since 2005 and has served on different committees over the years. She is currently the ABSA Treasurer and has been a co-instructor for the risk assessment ABSA owned courses. She holds various safety certifications including Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
