Biography

Boe Hyun Kim has the expertise, leadership, training, and motivation necessary to successfully carry out the proposed research project. She has a broad background in gerontology, with specific training and excellence in neuroscience, cell biology and animal behavior to analysis on neurocognitive disorders. Her research includes learning and memory deficient associated with HIV infection in brain. As PI or co-investigator on previous and current universities and Korean government and NIH-funded grants, She laid the ground work for the proposed research by developing effective protocols of specific cell cultures, optimal condition for virus infection, measuring tools, and behavioral test. In addition, she successfully administered the projects (e.g., staffing, research protections, budget), collaborated with other researchers, and produced meaningful data which is good enough for peer-reviewed publications from each project. As a result of these previous experiences, she aware of the importance of frequent communication among project members and of constructing a realistic research plan, timeline, and budget. The research field had change from prion diseases to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) on November, 2010 after she joined the current lab. However, her research field is consisted in neuroscience and dementia and/or neurocognitive disorders which are strongly connect two fields and helpful to lead projects and contributed to establish and make useful of Hand mouse model.
