Biography

Pedro Fernandez Soto is Professor of Parasitology at the University of Salamanca. He graduated in Biology in 1993, in Biochemistry in 1997 and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Molecular Medicine at the University of Salamanca in 2003. He is a member of the research group at Parasite and Molecular Immunology Laboratory belonging to the Tropical Disease Research Centre of the University of Salamanca (Cietus). He is also a member of the Network for Cooperative Research in Tropical Diseases (Ricet) in Spain and Cystinet (European Network on Taeniosis/Cysticercosis).He participates in the research lines of vaccines against helminths, efficacy of new antiparasitic drugs and currently coordinates the research line in molecular diagnostic at Cietus. He is especially interested in developing new molecular assays for the diagnosis of parasites and to test, valuate and validate them as point of care systems potentially applicable in endemic areas. At present, he is the Vice-President of the Spanish Society for Tropical Medicine and International Health (Semtsi).
