Biography

Dr. Bernhard Ryffel, MD, PhD is Director of Research at CNRS, INEM (UMR7355), University of Orléans, France. He earned his medical degree in 1978 after completing medical education in Bern and Geneva, followed by a PhD in 1984 and FMH specialization in pathology in 1988 in Basel. Dr. Ryffel has held various academic and industry positions, including at the University of Bern (Immunology), Sandoz Pharma in Basel (Pharmacology), the University of Zurich (Pharmacology-Toxicology), and the University of Cape Town (Immunology). Since 2001, he has led immunological research at CNRS, focusing on mechanisms of inflammation across multiple organs, including the lungs, liver, skin, gut, kidneys, and CNS. Ryffel is the founder of Artimmune SAS and Phenotec AG and advises several pharmaceutical companies. One of his recent focuses includes the development of a stable butyrate drug candidate for treating chronic inflammatory diseases.

Research Interests

Mechanisms of Inflammation Especially Respiratory Inflammation Fibrosis Emphysema and COPD But also in Skin Hepatic Intestinal Renal and Cns Inflammation. Cell Death Innate Immune Danger Sensing and Cgas/Sting Role of Microbiome Metabolome Neuroinflammation/Degeneration and Ageing and T2 / T17 Polarization Differentiation Innate Immunity and Novel Technologies.
