Biography

Elizabeth Le Fave serves as the Pediatric Pulmonary Center Nurse Faculty through a grant funded by the Maternal Child and Health Bureau. This grant supports the interdisciplinary leadership training of physicians, nurses, social workers, nutritionists and respiratory therapists to support the care of children with respiratory disease. Through this role, she is developing an interdisciplinary Community Asthma Program that allows for the assessment of asthma prevalence and severity as well as access and barriers to care in neighborhoods with the greatest asthma disparity. She is the Outpatient Clinic Coordinator for the Pediatric Allergy division at the University of Florida. She is active in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of asthma. She is the Community Lead for the Pediatric Asthma Center of Excellence (PACE) at the University of Florida. Her involvement with PACE has allowed me to emphasize the importance of continuity of care and ongoing evaluation for children with asthma in an outpatient clinical setting. Specific core measures have been followed since the inception of PACE with statistically significant improvement in several of the key areas including provision of an individualized asthma action plan. She participates as a member of the Florida Asthma Coalition in effort to improve the care of children with asthma in the state of Florida. Through the Florida Asthma Coalition she serves as a mentor for the asthma friendly school program. Through this program she was a mentor to 8 counties including Columbia, Union, Bradford, Putnam, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion and Alachua. She is also a certified Open Airways Instructor through the American Lung Association and a Certified Asthma Educator. She has also led the effort to increase the number of Certified Asthma Educators at UF Health by offering preparatory courses for the certification exam.
