Biography

Mari Numata-Nakamura, Associate Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, National Jewish Health, Denver, CO. Her research interests focus on the innate immunity of the lung, especially anti-viral effects of minor pulmonary surfactant phospholipids, palmitoyl-oleoyl-phosphatidylglcyerol (POPG) and phosphatidylinositol (PI) as anti-inflammatory and antiviral compounds against multiple respiratory viruses (e.g., Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Influenza, and Human Rhinoviruses (HRVs). Her research mission is to develop these lipids as anti-inflammatory and antivirals to treat patients who are suffering from chronic respiratory diseases including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and Interstitial lung diseases (ILD). Her knowledge and experience in clinical practice as a physician-scientist has proven useful in the understanding of the pathophysiology of respiratory diseases. This background has allowed her to focus on research plans and shape, future goals for clinical trials with POPG and PI applied to humans.
