Biography

Helder Spinola has a PhD on Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics since 2006, and a Degree in Biology since 1996. He was doing its research at the Human Genetics Laboratory on the University of Madeira -Portugal, with a special focus on the Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) polymorphisms, either for populations studies as for disease associations. Its research work add lead to several publications in international journals, presenting the HLA polymorphisms for different world populations, specially from Portugal and Africa, as also other genetic markers, namely on Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA, or A1AT and HFE, and along the past decade, the association between genetic markers and diseases, such as diabetes and asthma. He has been reviewing manuscripts for several international journals, such as: Journal of Diabetes; Diagnostics; Gene ; Genes; Journal of Medical Science Monitor; Journal of Medical Science and Technology; Global Journal of Medical Sciences; BMC Research Notes; Lung; Respiratory Medicine; Transfusion Medicine; Annals of Transplantation; Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine; Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare; PLOS ONE; Scientific Reports; Human Immunology; Biochemical Genetics; Molecular Medicine Reports; Malaysian Journal of Medicine & Health Sciences; and International Journal of Immunogenetics. He is also teaching Biochemistry and Human Genetics at the University of Madeira- Portugal.
