Biography

Dumaine Robert graduated in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics and collaborates with Department of Physiology and Biophysics in University of Sherbrooke he worked as a faculty member since 2009. He successfully has accomplished his Bachelor (BSc) Physics and Master (MSc) Biophysics. His scientific accomplishment includes key contributions to our understanding of arrhythmias in inherited cardiac diseases. In 1996 he published, in parallel with R. Kass at Columbia, the first detailed study explaining the mechanism causing long QT syndrome (LQTS) type 3. In 1999, they published the first paper describing a plausible mechanism for BrS and predicted that in some cases arrhythmias could be temperature dependent, a phenotype now observed clinically and since then confirmed for other BrS mutations. In collaboration with Peter Schwartz’s group, they published in the New England Journal of Medicine the first inherited mutation linking LQTS to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). In 2004 their team discovered the first gene linked to Short QT syndrome (SQTS) and characterized a mutation N588K in HERG responsible for the disease. These four studies have become basic references for the scientific community.
