Jan Sudir Purba is a scientist in the fields of Neuro Science, Neuro Pharmacology and Herbal Medicine. Born on November 30, 1949, was the first of 6 children in Pematang Raya, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Education: at the Christian High School in the same place in 1968. Moved to West Germany to study German at Phylologische Fakultaet, Heidelberg University and then studied Clinical Psychology in Saarbrücken and Düsseldorf completed in 1981. After that moving to Amsterdam, The Netherlands studied Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. MD degree 1989, then completed education in the fields of Neurology and Neuroscience, finished 1994 as a holder of a PhD. Had worked as a Post Doc at the Netherlands Institute for Brain Research which is now the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. At the request of Prof. Mahar Mardjono (Chairman of the Indonesian Presidents Health Team at that time) returned to Indonesia in 1995, active as a lecturer in Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, and Jakarta. In addition, he actively gives lectures on Specialist Education courses for Neurology and Psychiatry at several universities in Indonesia. In addition also to guiding PhD students at several universities in Indonesia. This task is still ongoing to this day apart from conducting research. Thanks to the assistance of DAAD, Germany, once visited 3 years in the framework of cooperation, including two visits to the Max Planck Institute of Munich, two visits to the University of Tuebingen. In addition, also to the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience Amsterdam (Prof. Dick F Swaab).
