Biography

Jeffrey Andrew Barash is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Amiens, France. He resides in Paris, France. His publications have focused on the themes of collective memory and its modern articulations, political philosophy, historicism and modern German thought. He is the author of several books: Heidegger et son sicle. Temps de l'stre, temps de l'histoire (Paris: Presses Universitaires de France, 1995), Martin Heidegger and the Problem of Historical Meaning (second, paperback edition, New York: Fordham University Press, 2003), and Politiques de l'histoire. L'historicisme comme promesse et comme mythe (Paris: Presses Universitaires de France, 2004). His most recent book, Collective Memory and the Historical Past, was published by the University of Chicago Press in November 2016. He has also edited a book entitled The Social Construction of Reality. The Legacy of Ernst Cassirer (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2008). Jeffrey Andrew Barash is preparing a new work at present on philosophical theories of myth in relation to recent developments in the mass media.
