He earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Energy at Istanbul Technical University, where his dissertation focused on the environmental impact of pulverized coal and coal mixtures injection on the iron and steel industry. His academic journey also includes a significant tenure as a Visiting Research Scholar at The Penn State University EMS Energy Institute Coal Utilization Lab in the USA.
