M Koma is Associate Professor of Surgery and Cancer Biology in the Departments of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology and School of Graduate Studies and Research at Meharry Medical College School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Division of General Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is recognized for his expertise in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). His expertise is directed towards the improvement of diagnostics, assessments of disease activity and surgical management of ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis, specifically as they relate to the physiology of restorative proctocolectomy and ileal-pouch anal anastomosis. He has basic, clinical, and translational research expertise in these areas.
