Can Kosukcu attend the Biology Department at Hacettepe University Faculty of Science in 2009. In undergrad Can Kosukcu worked on D.melanogaster for “Investigating the effects of diet restriction on different life-history traits”. Can Kosukcu completed an internship in the Nephrogenetics laboratory, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. This scope ensured me to study the theoretical aspects of human genetics and rare disease ontology. Also Can Kosukcu had the opportunity to apply the basic molecular genetic techniques with the wet lab and the dry lab of NGS. Resolving the built-in analysis tools led us to identify a novel nephrotic disease gene. From then until now Can Kosukcu worked on more than 1.500 whole-exome sequencing data. Previously Can Kosukcu also analyzed whole genome sequencing data as a part of my master’s thesis. Due to a high consanguinity rate in Turkey, mendelian diseases are a significant health burden. Therefore, researchers have an opportunity to define new phenotypes, identify novel genes and relevant pathways in rare diseases.
