Biography

Neelja Singhal did her first post doc in Department of Microbiology, University of Delhi South Campus where she studied comparative genomics of β-lactamase genes (bla), their promoters and the molecular basis of differential expression of these genes with an aim to identify DNA sequences to design newer β-lactamase inhibitors in enteric pathogens. Her research interests lies in understanding mechanism behind microbial pathogenesis and antimicrobial) and measures to counter these in important human pathogens. She has used different approaches like structural and functional genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics etc. to study mechanisms behind bacterial pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance. During her PhD tenure she identified intracellular expressed proteins in drug sensitive and resistant M. tuberculosis with potential to serve as drug-targets against resistant M. tuberculosis. Presently, she is working as an independent project investigator on- using antibiotic resistance genes for developing a rapid method for detection of enteric bacteria, under Early Career Research Award Scheme at Department of Microbiology, University of Delhi South Campus, and New Delhi. Throughout her academic career, she has received many prestigious fellowships and awards which are awarded by the Government of India through national level competitive exams. Till date, she has eighteen research papers to my credit which have been published in various international and national journals like Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Microbiology, Journal of Proteomics, PlosOne, Biochemistry, Proteome Science, Proteins & Peptide Letters, Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology, Indian Journal of Medical Research, etc.
