Tarun Kumar De, born on 27th January of 1962 is an Indian by birth and the current Head of the Department of Marine Science, University of Calcutta and Senate member of University of Calcutta. Awarded National Scholarship from Matriculation and First class graduate from University of Burdwan in 1983. Postgraduate in Marine Science from Calcutta University in 1985 , Awarded Fellowship from Department of Ocean Development, Gov. of India during Doctoral Thesis. Joined as Aquaculturist in Research & Development wing in a 200 ha brackish water aquaculture farm in Sunderban Aquatic Farms Ltd. for 2 year , then promoted to Production Manager and maintained high quality production for 3 years before joining as Faculty member in Department of Marine Science , Calcutta University in 1998. Guided more than 200 MS students for their dissertation thesis. Nine research scholars have obtained their Ph.D degrees under his supervision and nine more are registered under him as Ph.D scholars . Three National Post Doctoral Fellow also work under his supervision. Prof. De has successfully implemented and completed seven major research projects funded by recognized national or state level bodies. He has served as conveners of many seminars and workshops and has also been serving as expert member in various National and State level Universities and academic organizations . His role as reviewer and editor of many scientific research papers through association with various international/national journals of prominence highlights his credentials even more. More than 70 published research papers in journals/conferences of National/International repute and 3 books speak volume of his scientific contributions. He is a active member of syndicate, the policy making body of Calcutta University.
