Biography

Dr A. Manickavelu (Manicks) has pursued his education in Agricultural science and did a PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India (2005). From 2005 to 2016, he has worked in Japan at various levels starting from Post-Doc to Associate Professor. Also, have working experience in International Agricultural Organization (ICARDA-International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas). He has joined the Central University of Kerala as an Associate Professor with the Department of Genomics in July 2016. He has started research in Rice by understanding the genetic mechanism against drought. The importance of wheat as a global crop and suggestions from the mentor (Prof. Koba) directed to start the wheat research. During the 11 years of his research career in Japan, he has completed nine wheat research projects and published the study periodically. Most of the investigations are towards molecular Genetics and Genomics area. To fulfil his dream of ‘Science to Society’, he has joined the SATREPS-Afghan project, which helped connect with International Agricultural Research. In between the SATREPS project, he worked in ICARDA, an International Agriculture Research Centre, and applied biotechnology tools in Germplasm and Pre-breeding.
