Biography

Jennifer Giandhari received her PhD in Virology from the University of Witwatersrand in 2015. Her doctoral research highlighted the contribution of HIV-1 Gag and Protease to protease inhibitor-based therapy failure. She joined the Genomics Unit at the University of KwaZulu-Natal as a postdoctoral researcher. Her postdoctoral research focuses on identifying novel HIV-1 drug resistance mutations to protease inhibitors outside of the protease gene by using a genomics and bioinformatics approach. This will assist in the management of patients failing second-line therapy and help guide effective third line options. Her work forms part of the Southern African Treatment Resistance Network (SATuRN).
